A Lovely Bonus

This guitar strap comes adorned with an intricately engraved leather end that tells a tale of love and the unwavering resolve of women.

Hailing from the quaint village of Vila Verde, just a short distance from Braga in northern Portugal, is a fascinating textile artifact known as the "Lenço dos Namorados" (Sweetheart's Handkerchief).

This cherished textile serves as a potent symbol of love and has become emblematic of the Minho region. Once home to numerous embroidery workshops, young women employed in these establishments would gather leftover yarn and, lacking formal education, would stitch love letters onto handkerchiefs. Despite the inevitable spelling errors, these heartfelt missives conveyed the depths of their affection.

When a young woman fell for a suitor, she would carefully embroider her sentiments onto a handkerchief and send it to him. Should he reciprocate her feelings, he would proudly wear the handkerchief to Sunday mass, signalling their mutual affection.

This tradition speaks volumes about the power of determination and commitment, reflecting the indomitable spirit of the women of Minho who pursued their desires with unwavering resolve.
