Some Spooky Tunes to Celebrate Samhain.....

The darker half of the year is nearly here and soon enough the fairy folk will get their chance to walk among us. What better way to celebrate than donning a wonderful costume, lighting an enormous bonfire (safely though, always safely) and working your way through some classic Halloween songs. Let's get into it.

Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones: Get your Halloween started with this classic tune. Here's a fairly simple way to play Sympathy for the devil by The Rolling Stones. Most of this song can be played with just the easy chords E major, D major and A major. The chorus uses a B major chord, which can be played as a barre chord or as the easier B7 chord.

Bad Moon Rising: Creedence Clearwater Revival: So, I'm not sure how Halloweeny this song really is but it's got bad moon in the title so it gets a mention. This is a wonderful classic which is comprised of 3 simple chords! In this lesson he'll teach you a standard tuning version but also a detuned version which is how John Fogerty plays the song live.

Monster Mash - Bobby Pickett: This one is great for a sing along around the fire as everyone has heard the chorus at some point in their lives. So, get the strumming pattern down and get ready to shout this at the moon with friends and family.

Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon: In this easy lesson, we'll learn how to play Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon on the guitar. You play this song using 3 easy, open chords - or put your Rock techniques on and spice it up!

Zombie - The Cranberries: Okay, so definitely not a Halloween song really, but what a tune! Instantly recognisable and an absolute belter for a singalong, this song had to be featured. This video gives you a wealth of options and strumming patterns to really explore three chords and fully enjoy playing this wildly classic number. Thank you Delores.

The Addams Family Theme Tune: We all know this fun little tune. It's catchy but it's also a great way to learn a simple picking pattern and get those fingers moving around the fretboard. Check it out.

The Halloween Theme Tune: A classic movie with a very recognisable theme, this one is a nice easy motif to bust out around the fire.

And a bonus video! Halloween wouldn't be the same without some heavier riffs, maybe some Black Sabbath? A little Pantera? Here's a cool collection of 10 classic riffs with tabs, for those seeking something a little more challenging

So, light the fire, grab your axe and get yourself playing some dark and dangerous festive riffage!
