Gather the Family Around for some Festive Renditions!

It's a wintry Christmas eve, all are gathered around a crackling fire and contented, murmured conversation fills the room.

But it feel like this party needs a little forward motion, a little excitement. If we keep going like this, everyone will be asleep by 9.

It's time to brush off those sweet, sweet piano skills and get this party back on track.

Maybe you got a cool little Carry-On foldable piano and you can start pumping out tunes right there in their midst. Or perhaps the Roland GO series is your practice tool of choice? Either way, let's gather around, and get a good ol festive sing-along going.

Here's a few simple numbers to get you started.

Jingle Bells

A sing-along classic, it's simple to play and absolutely everyone knows the words. Shout it at one another, and be happy.

Carol of the Bells

This is a great tune and you can get everyone to try to do the choral parts, or perhaps just improvise some fun Christmas lyrics. Actually, that might be a great festive game as everyone knows the melody quite well.

All I Want for Christmas - Mariah Carey

This number may test the singing chops of the relatives present but have no fear! Either there will be that one cousin who absolutely knocks it out of the park, or you can all roar the lyrics at each other while giggling furiously. Both are a total win.

Feliz Navidad

There's something remarkable poignant about Feliz Navidad played on the piano, almost mournful. If you play it slowly, it is suddenly oddly moving. And you definitely know the lyrics to this too.

Fairytale of New York

And obviously this. It must be learned and played because it is an incredible song and because we should honour the songwriting legend that was Shane McGowan. It's magnificent.

So there it is, a taster of a few songs to get the creative juices flowing this Christmas.
