Epiphone J-45 Studio - Natural

Classic slope-shoulder tone with modern playability and stage-ready electronics.

The Epiphone J-45 Studio is a beautifully balanced acoustic that brings the spirit of one of the most iconic guitars of all time within easy reach of modern players. Part of the Epiphone Studio Acoustic Collection, this model has been thoughtfully reimagined to deliver authentic J-45 character in a more accessible, player-friendly package — without losing the warmth and soul that made the original famous.

Inspired by the legendary Gibson J-45 “The Workhorse,” the J-45 Studio features the same sloped-shoulder body shape and 24.75” scale length, giving it that instantly familiar feel and a sound that’s warm, rounded and wonderfully clear. It’s a guitar that handles gentle fingerpicking just as confidently as full-bodied strumming, making it a great fit for folk, rock, singer-songwriter styles and everything in between.

The body pairs a solid spruce top with layered mahogany back and sides, delivering a responsive, balanced tone with excellent dynamic range. The spruce top adds clarity and articulation, while the mahogany brings warmth and depth — and the guitar will continue to open up and sound better the more it’s played. Subtle vintage touches like the multi-ply binding and dark tortoise-style pickguard complete the classic look.

Playability is a real strong point here. The mahogany neck, joined with a glued-in tapered dovetail joint, features a comfortable Rounded C profile that feels immediately inviting. It’s easy on the hands for beginners, while still offering the support and feel experienced players expect. The rosewood fretboard, fitted with 20 frets and simple pearloid dot inlays, makes both chord work and melodic playing smooth and natural.

For live performance and recording, the J-45 Studio comes equipped with Fishman electronics, including an S-Core under-saddle pickup and a Fishman Presys VT preamp. With discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls, you can make quick adjustments on the fly without distracting from the guitar’s classic appearance — a feature many players really appreciate.

Finished in a clean, timeless Natural gloss, this model also includes vintage-style three-on-a-plate tuners with ivory-coloured buttons, a Kalamazoo-style headstock, and a standard gig bag to keep things protected on the move. It’s a guitar we regularly recommend in Musicmaker when someone wants a dependable, great-sounding acoustic that genuinely bridges the gap between beginner and lifelong companion.
