The Avalon D580 Solid Vietnamese Ebony/Spruce feels less like a conventional acoustic guitar and more like an encounter with something rare and exotic. At the centre of that identity is Mun ebony — one of the rarest and most visually captivating woods Avalon has ever worked with.

Native to the tropical forests and limestone regions of Southeast Asia, Vietnamese Mun ebony is a timber that exists almost outside modern guitar-making trends. Slow-growing, exceptionally dense, and notoriously difficult to work with, it demands patience from the luthier long before it ever becomes music. But it rewards that patience with extraordinary character.

Unlike the uniform appearance people often expect from ebony, Mun ebony is alive with movement. Deep black grain collides with rich browns and subtle reddish undertones, creating visual depth that feels almost geological rather than decorative. Every set is entirely individual. No repetition.
