Gibson SG Junior, Dark Walnut, Exclusive Collection

A timeless single-pickup icon with nothing to get in the way of great tone

The Gibson SG™ Junior returns to the stripped-back design that made it one of the most relevant and beloved electric guitars of all time. First introduced in the early 1960s, the SG Junior may have started life as a student model, but it didn’t stay there for long. Over the decades, it has found its way into the hands of everyone from first-time players to world-famous performers, shaping the sound of rock, punk, blues and beyond for more than 60 years.

This Exclusive Collection model captures the spirit of those early classics beautifully. The lightweight mahogany body features sharp vintage-style scarfing and an early-60s neck joint, finished in a rich gloss nitrocellulose lacquer that lets the wood breathe and age naturally over time. The iconic SG body shape keeps things compact and comfortable, making it a particularly good fit for players with smaller hands or those who prefer a lighter, more agile guitar on stage.

The mahogany neck sports Gibson’s fast and comfortable SlimTaper™ profile, offering an easy, familiar feel that encourages confident fretting and fluid movement up and down the neck. Topped with a rosewood fingerboard and a 12” radius, it delivers smooth bends and relaxed chording in equal measure. Simple acrylic dot inlays keep the look clean and classic, while 22 medium jumbo frets provide a modern playing experience. Each SG Junior is Plek®-processed at the factory, ensuring perfectly dressed frets and optimal setup straight out of the case, helped along by a low-friction Graph Tech® nut for stable tuning and smooth string movement.

At the heart of the SG Junior is its legendary single Dogear P-90 pickup. Bold, raw and incredibly expressive, it delivers thick midrange punch, articulate highs and a touch-responsive edge that reacts beautifully to your picking dynamics. The hand-wired volume and tone controls, paired with an Orange Drop® capacitor, may look simple, but they unlock a surprising range of sounds — from sparkling cleans to snarling overdrive — all controlled directly from your hands.

Vintage Deluxe-style tuners with white buttons and a compensated wraparound bridge complete the package, offering excellent sustain, tuning stability and that unmistakable Junior feel. No unnecessary extras, no distractions — just pure Gibson tone, attitude and playability. Supplied with a hardshell case, this SG Junior is ready for rehearsal rooms, studios and stages alike, and it’s exactly the kind of honest, inspiring instrument we’re always proud to stand behind here at musicmaker.
