Mooer ShimVerb Reverb Micro Compact Pedal

Reverb is one of those effects where a little can make everything sound better – and a lot can make it sound like you're playing guitar from the bottom of an abandoned cathedral. The Mooer ShimVerb Reverb Micro Compact Pedal happily handles both, packing three very different reverb modes into one seriously tiny stompbox.

You get Room, Spring and Shimmer modes, giving the ShimVerb plenty of range despite its miniature dimensions. Room covers natural acoustic spaces ranging from smaller room sounds towards larger hall-style ambience, making it a great everyday reverb for adding depth without completely washing out your playing.

Switch over to Spring and things get decidedly more vintage. Designed to recreate the splashy character of classic spring reverb, it's right at home with surf, blues, rockabilly and old-school clean guitar sounds. Turn it up, grab the tremolo arm and pretend it's 1963.

Then there's Shimmer, where proceedings become considerably more atmospheric. This mode adds rich upper harmonics to the reverb, producing those spacious, floating textures that work beautifully for ambient, post-rock, shoegaze and cinematic guitar sounds. Big chords suddenly become enormous clouds of noise, which we're very much in favour of.

Controls are simple, with Level, Colour and Decay letting you determine how much reverb you hear, shape its character and control how long it hangs around. The Colour control also adapts depending on the selected mode, providing additional control over the particular character of each reverb type.

And because it's part of Mooer's Micro Series, the whole thing takes up hardly any room on your pedalboard. You still get a tough all-metal enclosure and true bypass switching, making it a cracking little option for squeezing proper reverb into an already crowded setup.
