Joe Doe 'Gas Jockey' by Vintage - Sparkling Gold Sand with Case

Sometimes, a guitar's visual aesthetics offer a prelude to the symphony it is about to orchestrate. Take, for instance, the Joe Doe Gas Jockey. Adorned with classic 50's car styling and the vibrant hues of a gas pump, what auditory landscape can one anticipate? Perhaps a rumbling low end, a robust chug in the rhythm stance, or screeching highs reminiscent of a teenager tearing up the asphalt in his father's '59 Chevy El Camino at the local grocery store car park. The Joe Doe Gas Jockey promises all this and more. Whether you opt for the gas pump red or the sparkling gold sand model, this guitar sets the stage for an expectation of thumping, humping, and pumping rock 'n' roll, effortlessly delivering on those promises.

Now, let's delve into the origin tale of the Joe Doe Gas Jockey, a narrative that unfurls on a gas station forecourt in the year 1960.

The Story:

Wally 'Songman' Saban is indeed a living, breathing, human jukebox. Nestled in his New Jersey gas station on Fellowship Road, Wally not only refuels your vehicle but also serenades you with any song you can conjure on his electric guitar. How is such a feat possible? Over the sixty-three years Wally has graced the station forecourt, he's been accompanied by the melodies emanating from his AM radio, broadcasting Billboard hits of the day. Merely listening to a song once is all Wally needs for the notes to be transcribed and etched into his musical DNA. A weathered sign hanging over the station entrance issues a challenge - Dare to Challenge Wally for 5 dollars. If he fails to play your requested song, your gas is on the house. Locals know better than to take the bait, but newcomers often try their luck, proposing obscure tunes from the '70s and invariably leaving 5 bucks lighter.

Wally, in his tenure, has only succumbed to defeat once, unable to meet a request from Loretta Marshall in 1982. She departed with a free tank of gas, and Wally secured her number. Since that day, they've been harmonising together ever since.
