Claire De Lune - Claude Debussy
This composition, likely the most widely recognised piano piece by the young Debussy, served as the slow third movement in his Suite bergamasque (HN 381), a work consisting of four movements. While its harmony adheres to convention, the tonal and melodic intricacies foreshadow Debussy's later piano style. Despite its composition dating back to 1890, the suite wasn't published until 1905. Debussy, by appending the composition date to the proofs, indicated its earlier origin, and the decision to publish it suggested a continued connection to this piece from a period reflective of a stylistic phase he had long surpassed.
