Consolations, Piano Solo - Franz Liszt
These six short piano pieces are some of Liszt's most famous and accessible works, standing out in a catalog known for its eccentricity and virtuosity. Liszt began composing this collection in 1844, though it wasn’t published until 1850. While the pieces were initially engraved for printing, this early version never made it to publication. Liszt eventually replaced the third piece—a forerunner to his first Hungarian Rhapsody—with a Chopin-style nocturne, which is sometimes performed as an encore in piano recitals. He also simplified the other pieces. For the first time, this edition includes both the final published version and the complete, unreleased early version.
