When Günter Henle established his Urtext publishing house in 1948, he began with the publication of Mozart's piano sonatas in two volumes, which are still identified by our catalog numbers HN 1 and HN 2. Throughout the years, both volumes have undergone multiple revisions to ensure that the musical text consistently reflects the latest advancements in scholarly research. Many of Mozart's sonata manuscripts have been preserved, and for certain works, he made slight textual adjustments before publication. Consequently, in such cases, we present both versions. The editor's preface and comprehensive commentary offer detailed insights into the sources and address questions related to the text.
