LP 441 Soft Shake
Not every shaker needs to sound like somebody emptying a cutlery drawer down a flight of stairs. The LP441 Soft Shake is designed for the other end of the spectrum, delivering a smooth, delicate shaker sound that's particularly at home in recordings, acoustic performances and quieter percussion arrangements.
In fact, LP describes the LP441 as its softest-sounding shaker. Its lightweight internal shot produces a restrained rhythmic texture that can sit underneath a song rather than elbowing its way to the front. That's brilliant when you're adding movement to acoustic guitar, vocals, keys or softer percussion and want the groove to be felt without the shaker becoming the star of the record.
The clever bit is that you're actually getting two small plastic shakers, joined together by a pair of removable rubber bands. Leave them connected and you've got the familiar DuoShake format that sits comfortably in one hand. Remove the bands and you've suddenly got two individual shakers, letting you play one in each hand, hand one to another musician, or experiment with different patterns.
At approximately 6½ inches long in its paired configuration, the Soft Shake is compact, lightweight and easy to control. That makes it particularly friendly for studio work, where tiny differences in dynamics can matter enormously and the microphone has an irritating habit of hearing everything.
