Gibson ES-335 Vintage Ebony
The Gibson ES-335 stands as the epitome of the Gibson ES (Electric Spanish) guitar lineage. As the pioneer "thinline" archtop model, this historic guitar remains the gold standard for semi-hollowbody guitars. Its versatile tonal range has made it a favourite among jazz, blues, and rock musicians worldwide. In 2020, Gibson revives the ES-335 with the same meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that defined the original's success in 1958. Boasting a rounded C neck profile reminiscent of Gibson's revered late 1950s instruments, the ES-335 delivers unmatched playability. Featuring pearloid-inlaid rosewood fingerboards and a hand-rolled mahogany neck, this guitar beckons players with its inviting feel. Equipped with Gibson's Calibrated T-Type humbucking pickups and handwired control assembly, the ES-335 offers the versatile Gibson ES tone that has captivated guitarists for decades. Vintage Deluxe tuners, an aluminium ABR-1 bridge, and Stopbar tailpiece ensure precise intonation and tuning stability. Crafted from premium tonewoods, including a 3-ply maple/poplar/maple top and back, a solid maple center block, and a mahogany neck, the ES-335 delivers exceptional resonance and sustain. Its T-Type humbuckers provide legendary tone, offering a wide range of stylistic options from clean chiming tones to aggressive distortion. Designed for comfort and playability, the ES-335 features a rounded "C" neck profile and Plek’d frets for optimised playability, ensuring a sublime playing experience for guitarists of all styles and levels.
Construction
The ES-335 is regarded for its elegant semi-hollow body, which allows you to achieve bright and open sounds with plenty of natural acoustic-like volume. Formed from a 3-ply maple/poplar combination, these tonewoods give this guitar plenty of vibrancy and top-end definition. To add some warmth, the ES-335's body is paired with a quarter sawn mahogany neck; topped with a rosewood fingerboard for a silky feel under the fingers. The neck has a comfortable rounded “C” profile, feeling substantial in the hands without being too chunky or cumbersome. The ES-335 Figured's rolled binding also offers a smoother feel, with a sleek transition between the side of the neck and the fretboard.
Electronics & Hardware
A double-dose of medium-output T-Type humbucking pickups give this instrument a rounded, warm tone. More responsive to your playing dynamics, these pickups lend themselves to expressive players. Although semi-hollow guitars are more synonymous with clean jazz players, with distortion these humbuckers can sound fairly raunchy and bold; meaning they're not just one trick ponies by any means.
The Gibson USA ES-335 Figured comes installed with an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, providing a stable and solid feel under the picking hand. With its simple and accessible design making it easy to adjust your action and intonation, you can easily manipulate your setup on-the-fly. Fitted with Titanium saddles, these offer better sustain, intonation and longevity.
