Some acoustic guitars are polished until every surface looks pristine. The Lâg Guitars Sauvage Auditorium Cutaway Electro-Acoustic deliberately goes the other way. With its rugged rough-sawn Smoked Eucalyptus back and sides, satin finish and distinctive BrankoWood construction, the Sauvage-ACE looks like an instrument that's already got stories to tell—and it's one of the most interesting acoustic designs in Lâg's current range.

The Auditorium body shape hits a beautiful sweet spot between comfort and acoustic presence. It's substantial enough to deliver a full, expressive voice, but more manageable than a big dreadnought when you're sitting down for a long session. The cutaway opens up access to the higher frets, making the Sauvage equally happy accompanying vocals, handling intricate fingerstyle passages or heading further up the neck for lead work.

There's some genuinely clever thinking behind the timber choices too. The top is made from Pale BrankoWood, while the back and sides use Smoked Eucalyptus with that unmistakable rough-sawn surface. Lâg's BrankoWood technology is designed around more sustainable use of timber, with a specialised treatment process that improves stability while creating the tonal and structural properties required for instrument making. The Sauvage doesn't merely look different for the sake of it; its materials are a fundamental part of the concept.

Another particularly interesting feature is the rounded back. Rather than using a completely conventional flat-backed acoustic construction, Lâg uses the curved profile to help create a bigger, more resonant response from the body. Combined with X-bracing, the Auditorium proportions and BrankoWood top, it gives the Sauvage-ACE a rich, balanced character with plenty of projection and detail.

The neck is Khaya, paired with a Brown BrankoWood fingerboard, comfortable 43mm nut width and familiar 650mm scale length. A 350mm fingerboard radius gives it a contemporary steel-string feel, while 20 medium silver-nickel frets and a double-action truss rod round out a specification built for proper everyday playing rather than simply admiring the guitar from across the room.

And this Sauvage is very much ready for the stage. Lâg's StageLâg preamp system gives you control over Volume, Bass, Middle and Treble, alongside Phase and Notch controls for dealing with troublesome frequencies and feedback in live environments. There's also an integrated tuner, so everything you actually need for a gig is right there on the instrument.

Even better, Lâg includes a padded gig bag with the Sauvage-ACE. That's an important addition for a guitar that's likely to spend plenty of time travelling between home, rehearsals, sessions and stages, and means you're properly equipped from day one.

The Lâg Sauvage Auditorium Cutaway Electro-Acoustic has a rare quality: you could recognise it from the other side of the room. The raw texture, unusual materials and French design give it enormous visual character, but underneath all of that is a seriously practical electro-acoustic with thoughtful electronics and comfortable dimensions. If rows of glossy, conventional acoustics leave you feeling a little cold, this one's got some proper wildness about it.
