Danelectro 3699 Fuzz Pedal
Danelectro has reintroduced the iconic 3699 fUZZ, celebrated for its retro aesthetics, playability, and distinctive sound. These guitars played a pivotal role in the early days of rock and roll and remain as popular as ever.
In the course of this remarkable journey, Steve Ridinger, the owner of Danelectro, has crafted some of the finest foot pedals in the history of guitar effects. Among them is the revered FOXX 3699 Tone Machine, a truly iconic guitar effects pedal.
Now available as a reissue, the Danelectro 3699 fUZZ faithfully reproduces the glorious fuzz tones that made the original a must-have for countless players since its inception in the 1970s. Encased in a robust metal chassis with Danelectro's signature custom wear-and-tear finish, aged knobs, and a distinctive large lens orange on/off indicator, this reissue incorporates the original analog circuitry and decades-old NOS transistors, meticulously gain-selected for a narrow gain range that produces sweet tones. Modern tweaks enhance the overall experience.
While retaining the unmistakable vintage core-tone voice, the reissue introduces an independent foot-switchable octave with a more pronounced octave shift, providing a new dimension to chords and adding extreme highs to solo note runs. The overall tone is warmer, and a single tone control with an extensive range blends exciting frequencies with the classic edgy fuzz, responding exceptionally well across the guitar's volume control sweep. New features include a mini-toggle switch for a mid-range boost (counteracting the mid-cut of the original pedal) and true bypass switching.
Steve Ridinger has often been questioned about the origin of the name "3699" for this octave fuzz pedal. In the '70s, it was trendy for a company to have a phone number spelling out the name of the product. Steve calculated the numbers needed to spell F-O-X-X, resulting in 3-6-9-9. Surprisingly, this was already the FOXX company phone number randomly assigned the year before by the phone company. Whether weird or spooky, the Danelectro 3699 fUZZ stands as the top choice for vintage fuzz enthusiasts.
