Gibraltar SC-DC Hi Hat Drop Clutch

Double-pedal drummers know the problem: your left foot is suddenly required elsewhere, but your hi-hat still expects someone to keep it closed. The Gibraltar SC-DC Hi-Hat Drop Clutch is the wonderfully mechanical solution – hit it with a stick, drop the top cymbal, and get that foot back onto the second bass drum pedal.

The SC-DC replaces a conventional hi-hat clutch and lets you disengage the upper cymbal with a quick strike to the rubber-protected release lever. The top cymbal drops onto the bottom hat, giving you a closed hi-hat sound without needing to hold the pedal down. It's particularly useful for double bass and double-pedal playing, where freeing up the left foot can make an enormous difference.

When you want normal hi-hat operation again, simply step down on the hi-hat pedal. The clutch catches and re-engages at its original position, putting control of the cymbals straight back under your foot. No stopping the song, no leaning down between toms, and considerably less chance of headbutting the snare microphone halfway through the set.

Compatibility is nicely straightforward too. The SC-DC is designed for 7mm hi-hat pull rods, making it suitable for a wide range of compatible stands. A lower locking nut with a square-head bolt helps keep the cymbal securely mounted, while the release mechanism is positioned so it's easy to find with a drumstick when things get busy.
