A pair of speaker stands is one of those purchases where you really want strong, stable and easy to carry to appear in the same sentence. Unfortunately, sturdy PA hardware has traditionally interpreted “strong” as “made from the remains of a railway bridge”. The Gravity SS 5211 B SET 1 takes the more sensible route, combining two robust aluminium speaker stands with a proper padded transport bag.

The set includes two Gravity SP 5211 B stands, each constructed from thick-walled, powder-coated aluminium tubing. That keeps the individual stand weight down to just 2.2kg, while still giving each one a substantial 50kg maximum load capacity. For mobile DJs, gigging bands, venues, schools and anyone regularly carrying a PA from the van to the stage, your lower back may consider this a particularly thoughtful design decision.

Each stand offers a useful height range from 1060mm to 1950mm, with a standard 35mm mounting pole for compatible PA speakers. Height is secured using a fixing screw together with a locking safety pin, giving you positive mechanical security rather than asking one little knob to spend the entire gig negotiating with gravity.

Down below, the tripod uses a sturdy die-cast aluminium leg collar, while Gravity uses steel for the height-adjustment collar to add strength where it's needed. The adjustment knobs are ergonomically shaped too, with a soft-touch, non-slip coating that makes setup and pack-down a little friendlier on the hands.

And because two loose speaker stands are exactly the sort of objects that become spectacularly awkward the moment you're also carrying a mixer, cable bag and cup of coffee, Gravity includes its GBGSS2B transport bag. Made from tough, water-repellent 600D nylon, it features 15mm padding, two separate compartments and a double zip, keeping the stands together and protected between gigs.

The complete set weighs around 6kg, making it a nicely portable PA solution without sacrificing the reassuring construction you want underneath an expensive loudspeaker.

Finished in classic Black with Gravity's green identification rings, the stands also include a black ring set if you'd prefer something more understated.
