LP 229 Mambo Cowbell

Some cowbells politely add a little extra percussion to the groove. The LP229 Mambo Cowbell arrives with a rather different attitude: deep, dry, punchy and absolutely certain that everybody should know it's there.

At 8½ inches, the LP Mambo is a substantial mountable cowbell designed particularly with timbale players and Latin percussion setups in mind. Its larger body produces a satisfyingly deep pitch with dry overtones, giving you a strong fundamental note without an enormous wash of ringing sustain afterwards. Hit it, get the note, move on to the next bit of rhythmic business.

LP has given the bell an engineered mouth shape and sharp, raised playing surface, making it particularly comfortable to strike when positioned around a set of timbales. There's plenty of usable playing area for solid accents, patterns and rolls, while the low voice makes the LP229 a brilliant partner for smaller, higher-pitched bells.

Of course, there's no rule saying it has to live beside a pair of timbales. Mount one around a drum kit or expanded percussion rig and you've got a big, authoritative cowbell voice ready for funk, rock, Latin, fusion and anything else improved by the strategic application of metal.

Mounting is handled by LP's patented self-aligning eye-bolt, which accepts rods from 3/8" to 1/2" in diameter. That gives you plenty of flexibility when adding it to compatible percussion hardware and lets you position the bell exactly where your sticks can find it without launching an expedition across the kit.

Finished in classic Black and made in the USA, the LP229 is a proper workhorse percussion instrument with a distinctive voice. Deep pitch, dry response, big playing surface. More cowbell, certainly – but considerably better organised.
