LP 1209 Large Guiro Jam Block

Why choose between a Jam Block and a guiro when you can bolt both sounds into the same bit of percussion hardware? The LP1209 Large Guiro Jam Block combines the deep, woody attack of LP's famous synthetic blocks with a ridged playing surface for scraping out guiro-style rhythms – essentially giving your percussion setup two new voices for the space of one.

This is the low-pitched, larger member of the Jam Block family, producing a deep, rich block tone with plenty of projection. It's designed to recreate the musical character of a traditional wood block, but without the unfortunate tendency of actual wooden blocks to crack, chip or eventually object to years of enthusiastic stick abuse.

That's thanks to Jenigor, LP's exclusive synthetic material. It's exceptionally tough – LP describes its Jam Blocks as virtually indestructible – while still producing the rich, cutting response that makes these things so useful alongside drums, cowbells and other percussion. You can play it with plenty of conviction without feeling like you're slowly murdering a lovely piece of hardwood.

Then flip your attention to those raised ridges. Run a suitable scraper or stick across them and the LP1209 produces guiro-style rhythmic textures, giving you everything from short accents to longer scraping patterns. That dual playing surface makes it particularly handy for drummers and percussionists who like squeezing as many available sounds as possible into a compact setup.

Mounting is straightforward too. LP includes a heavy-duty mounting bracket and eye-bolt assembly, designed for compatible 3/8" diameter rods. Once positioned around your kit, the block is ready for quick accents, patterns and whatever rhythmic mischief you've got planned.
