Lag Guitars Tramontane 118 Auditorium Cutaway Electro-Acoustic
There’s a reason the Auditorium shape has become such a favourite among players who refuse to be boxed into one style. The Lâg Guitars Tramontane 118 Auditorium Cutaway Electro-Acoustic – T118ACE is wonderfully adaptable: compact enough to feel comfortable during long playing sessions, responsive enough for detailed fingerstyle work, and powerful enough to handle confident strumming when the song calls for it.
The tonal heart of the T118ACE is its solid Red Cedar top. Cedar has a naturally warm, mature character and responds beautifully to a lighter touch, so you don't need to attack the strings to coax a rich sound from the guitar. Pair that with Khaya back and sides and you've got a voice that's warm and rounded through the mids while retaining enough clarity for individual notes to remain articulate.
That makes the T118ACE particularly lovely for singer-songwriters and fingerstyle players, but don't mistake "warm" for "quiet". The Auditorium body offers a beautifully balanced response across the strings, while the cutaway gives your fretting hand easy access further up the neck when chords give way to melodies and lead lines.
The playing dimensions are thoroughly contemporary. A 650mm scale length, 43mm nut width and 350mm fingerboard radius give the T118ACE a familiar steel-string acoustic feel, while the Khaya neck and Brown BrankoWood fingerboard provide a smooth foundation beneath your fingers. There are 20 medium silver-nickel frets and a double-action truss rod for proper long-term adjustability.
Plugging in reveals one of the strongest parts of the specification: Lâg’s Astro-Lâg electronics. This is considerably more than a basic volume-and-tone pickup system, with Volume, 3-band EQ, Brilliance, Notch and Phase controls alongside an integrated tuner. The Notch and Phase functions are especially useful on stage, helping you deal with troublesome frequencies and feedback while preserving the natural character of the guitar.
The finishing touches are unmistakably Lâg. Brown BrankoWood is used for the fingerboard, bridge and headstock facing, while black die-cast 1:18 ratio machine heads and matching black hardware give the guitar a clean, contemporary edge. The body receives a handsome gloss finish, and quarter-round body binding softens the edges where the guitar meets the player—a small detail that becomes very noticeable after a couple of hours with the instrument.
At Musicmaker, we love acoustics that don't dictate what sort of guitarist you're supposed to be. The Lâg Tramontane 118 Auditorium Cutaway Electro-Acoustic can be a songwriter's companion on Monday, a fingerstyle guitar on Wednesday and plugged straight into the PA for Friday night's gig. Warm, comfortable and impressively well equipped, it's a proper do-it-all acoustic with a distinctly French sense of style.
