Lag Guitars Sauvage Acoustic Bass Cutaway Electro-Acoustic
Bassists don't always get invited to the acoustic session. The Lâg Guitars Sauvage Acoustic Bass Cutaway Electro-Acoustic is here to change that. Big-bodied, beautifully unconventional and capable of delivering proper low-end without immediately reaching for an amplifier, the Sauvage-BCE takes the rugged character of Lâg's Sauvage series and stretches it into a seriously impressive four-string acoustic bass.
The Jumbo body gives those bass frequencies the air they need to develop, while Lâg's distinctive rounded back helps create a rich, resonant acoustic response. It's a clever combination for an acoustic bass, where body volume and projection really matter. The cutaway keeps the upper reaches of the fingerboard accessible too, so you're not limited to root notes and campfire duties—there's plenty of room for melodic playing, fills and adventurous bass work.
Visually, this thing is unmistakably Sauvage. The Pale BrankoWood top is paired with Smoked Eucalyptus back and sides, complete with the series' wonderfully tactile rough-sawn finish. Rather than sanding everything into anonymous perfection and burying it beneath layers of gloss, Lâg allows the material to retain its raw character. Combined with the satin finish and black hardware, the result looks somewhere between beautifully handcrafted and ready for the wilderness.
The materials aren't simply an aesthetic choice either. Lâg developed the Sauvage range around a more environmentally considered approach to guitar construction, including FSC-certified BrankoWood and finishing techniques intended to reduce the environmental impact associated with conventional instrument production. It's a genuinely interesting approach to sustainable guitar making without asking musicians to sacrifice character or performance.
The playing dimensions have been properly considered for bassists. An 822mm scale length gives the four strings the tension and definition needed for a convincing bass response, while the Khaya neck, Black BrankoWood fingerboard, 350mm radius and 42mm nut width create a comfortable, familiar feel. There are 20 medium silver-nickel frets, a double-action truss rod and a compensated black graphite nut to keep everything behaving as it should.
When an acoustic jam turns into a gig, the StageLâg electronics are ready to take over. You get Volume plus three-band EQ, alongside Phase and Notch controls that are particularly useful for managing feedback when amplifying a large acoustic body. There's also a built-in tuner, giving you a genuinely stage-ready control system without needing to fill the floor with extra gear.
Lâg fits the Sauvage-BCE with coated .040–.095 acoustic bass strings, providing a comfortable light-gauge feel with the response and definition needed to get that big body moving. And because an acoustic bass isn't exactly something you want rattling around loose in the back of the car, a padded gig bag is included
At Musicmaker, we have a serious soft spot for instruments that refuse to look like everything else on the wall. The Lâg Sauvage-BCE Acoustic Bass absolutely qualifies. It's earthy, unusual and beautifully thought out, with enough natural acoustic voice for unplugged playing and proper StageLâg electronics when you need to make the floorboards move. Acoustic session? Bass player invited.
