The Cosmic Trigger Preamp

Bringing together the finest elements of the Traynor TS50 and Acoustic 360 preamps, along with a custom gain stage, the Cosmic Trigger has been years in the making. Inspired by the bass tones of Electrical Audio, I initially crafted replicas of the Traynor TS50 and TS50B preamps, as well as the Acoustic 360 preamp. However, none quite hit the mark individually. Combining what I loved from each circuit - the active midrange control from the TS50 and the treble and bass controls from the ACC 360 - the Cosmic Trigger was born.

This versatile preamp pedal can function as a clean or driven pedal, or as a full-fledged preamp, whether used direct or into an amp's power/effects return. While designed primarily for bass, it's equally adept with guitar, synths, or drum machines. Thanks to Nick Williams' exceptional PCB design, the Cosmic Trigger boasts 36 Volts of headroom from a standard 9V power supply, complete with overvoltage and reverse polarity protection.

Featuring a gain boost footswitch for an extra 10% gain/saturation and volume, the Cosmic Trigger has garnered praise from active users like Ian MacFarlane of Cruel Sister/Squarehead and John "Spud" Murphy of Percolator/Lankum. Its versatility spans from Albini-style noise rock to classic 70s grooves, making it a staple on stages worldwide, even touring with Kylie Minogue. With its true bypass design and compatibility with industry-standard power supplies, the Cosmic Trigger is a reliable companion for any pedalboard, enhancing the tone of other pedals like drive fuzz. Each pedal is unique, with hand-pulled screen-printed graphics on powder-coated or hand-sprayed cases, ensuring no two are exactly alike.
