Ashdown Pro Drive Bass Overdrive Pedal
Some bass overdrives sound brilliant until you realise your low end has quietly packed a bag and left the building. The Ashdown Pro Drive Bass Overdrive Pedal is designed to avoid exactly that problem, delivering proper grit, growl and saturation while keeping the weight and authority of your bass firmly where it belongs.
Ashdown has kept the controls beautifully straightforward. Gain determines how hard you push the drive, Tone shapes the character of the effect, and Output lets you balance the overall level. That's it. No menu diving, no mysterious secondary functions – just three knobs between you and a seriously satisfying driven bass sound.
Turn the Gain back and the Pro Drive adds a little dirt and harmonic character to an otherwise clean tone. Push it harder and things get considerably more aggressive, with enough grind for rock, punk, alternative and heavier bass sounds. Importantly, Ashdown designed the circuit to work properly across the extended frequency range of the bass guitar, helping those lower notes retain their definition when the drive starts getting rowdy.
The construction is reassuringly Ashdown too, with a rugged steel enclosure, anodised aluminium finish and quality Neutrik jack sockets ready for life on a working pedalboard. Power comes from a standard 9V supply, making it easy to slot into an existing setup.
At Musicmaker, we're big fans of pedals that give you more time playing and less time scratching your head over controls. The Ashdown Pro Drive is exactly that sort of box: simple, tough and capable of taking your bass from a touch of warm grit to a proper snarling overdrive without forgetting that the low end is the whole reason you're here.
