There’s a point where a practice amp stops being “just a practice amp” and starts becoming a genuinely useful part of your bass rig. The Ashdown Studio-12 Bass Combo Amp lands right in that sweet spot, delivering 100 watts of classic Ashdown bass tone through a custom 12" speaker, while keeping the whole package compact enough for home, rehearsals and smaller gigs.

The Studio-12 is built around that familiar Ashdown character: warm, full-bodied lows with plenty of articulation when you need to hear the details. A flexible 5-band EQ gives you Bass, Low Mid, Middle, Hi-Mid and Treble controls, so there's loads of scope to shape your sound around different basses and playing styles. There's also Ashdown's Pre Shape switch for an instant tonal change when you don't fancy spending ten minutes fiddling with EQ.

Things get considerably more interesting when you engage the valve-emulated Drive. It can add anything from a little extra warmth and grit to a much dirtier driven bass sound, and it's footswitchable with an optional footswitch – very handy if you want to kick things up a notch mid-song.

For practice, you've got a Line Input and headphone output, while the Line Mix control lets you balance external audio with your bass. When it's time to leave the bedroom or rehearsal room, the balanced XLR DI output makes it straightforward to send your signal directly to a PA or recording setup.

And despite packing 100 watts and a 12" speaker, portability remains a big part of the Studio concept. The cabinet uses lightweight poplar ply, with heavy-duty tolex and chrome corners providing protection for the inevitable knocks of everyday musician life.
