There’s a lovely sweet spot between a little practice combo and a full-blown touring rig, and the Ashdown UK-SBM-112-200 Studio 1 x 12" 200W Bass Combo lands right in the middle of it. UK-built, compact and packing 200 watts through a premium Sica NEO 12" speaker, it’s designed for bassists who want serious punch and clarity without dragging an enormous cabinet everywhere they go.

The Sica NEO 12" driver is a big part of the appeal, delivering tight lows, articulate mids and plenty of definition from a relatively compact enclosure. Whether you're practising, recording, rehearsing with a band or heading into a smaller gig, there's enough power here to let your bass breathe while retaining the clean, responsive character Ashdown wanted from the UK Studio range.

Tone shaping is properly comprehensive without becoming complicated. You've got Ashdown's 5-band EQ, covering Bass, Lo-Mid, Middle, Hi-Mid and Treble, alongside Pre-Gain and Master Volume controls. There's also the familiar Pre-Shape switch, giving you an instant ready-to-go tonal contour when you want to plug in and get moving quickly.

Fancy a bit more filth? The onboard tube-emulated Drive lets you introduce warmth, grit and growl into your bass sound, and it can be switched remotely using Ashdown's optional FS-1 footswitch. That's particularly handy live, letting you keep a cleaner foundation and bring in some extra dirt when the song demands it.

The UK-SBM-112-200 is nicely equipped around the back too. You've got a balanced XLR DI output for the PA or recording desk, a TRS effects loop, Line Input and a ¼" headphone output that mutes the speaker when connected. That means the same amp that comes along to rehearsal can also handle silent practice and direct recording duties at home.

And it looks cracking. The Charcoal Tweed covering, Silver Weave grille and Ice Blue control panel give this UK-built Studio combo a wonderfully distinctive Ashdown identity without getting too flashy.
