Epiphone Les Paul Junior Double Cut - Ebony
The Epiphone Les Paul Junior Double Cut – Ebony is about as direct as it gets. One pickup, two knobs, and a whole lot of attitude. It’s a design that’s been around since the ’50s for a reason — it just works.
Originally aimed at students, the Les Paul Junior didn’t stay in that lane for long. Players quickly realised there was something special going on here. By the time the double cutaway version landed in the late ’50s, it opened things up even more — easier access up the neck, same raw, stripped-back feel. This modern Epiphone version keeps that spirit intact, but with a few smart upgrades that make it even more playable today.
The slab mahogany body gives you that punchy, mid-forward tone that Juniors are known for. It’s lively, resonant, and reacts instantly to how you play. The double cutaway really comes into its own when you start moving up the fretboard — nothing gets in your way.
The neck has a proper 50s Vintage profile, so it feels solid and substantial without being cumbersome. Paired with a rosewood fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo frets and a 12” radius, it’s comfortable for everything from big chord work to digging into lead lines.
Now, the real story here is the pickup. A single Epiphone P-90 PRO Dogear sitting in the bridge — and that’s all you need. Wide open, it’s got that gritty, snarling bite that cuts straight through. Roll the volume back and it cleans up beautifully — bright, jangly, and full of character. Back the tone off and suddenly you’re in warm, rounded territory. It’s a surprisingly flexible setup once you start using the controls properly.
Speaking of controls, it’s just master volume and tone, wired with CTS pots, so everything feels smooth and responsive. You’re not flicking between pickups — you’re shaping everything from your hands and those two knobs, which is half the fun.
Hardware keeps things old-school and effective. The Lightning Bar wraparound bridge anchors directly into the body, adding to the sustain and giving the guitar that immediate, connected feel. Up top, you’ve got the Kalamazoo-style headstock with a mother-of-pearl Epiphone logo and Deluxe tuners with ivory buttons, tying the whole vintage look together. A Graph Tech nut helps keep tuning stable, especially if you’re leaning into bends.
Finished in Ebony, it looks exactly how a Junior should — clean, unfussy, and a bit mean.
At Musicmaker, this is the one we hand over when someone says, “I don’t need loads of options — I just want it to sound good and feel right.” It’s simple, but it rewards you the more you play it.
