Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Medium Electric Strings (.011-.048)
The Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Medium Electric Guitar Strings (.011–.048) are a long-time favourite among players who want bigger tone, stronger attack, and a more substantial feel without stepping into ultra-heavy territory. If lighter gauges feel a bit too loose or thin for your playing style, Power Slinkys offer that extra bit of resistance and fullness that can completely transform the way your guitar responds.
Built with a slightly heavier gauge setup, these strings deliver a thicker, more powerful sound with enhanced sustain and stronger low-end presence. Chords sound fuller, riffs hit harder, and single notes carry a satisfying weight that works brilliantly for rock, blues, classic metal, punk, and heavier alternative styles.
The .011–.048 gauge also offers improved tuning stability and a firmer playing feel, making these strings especially popular with players who dig in hard with the pick or prefer a more controlled response for rhythm work. Despite the increased tension, Ernie Ball’s signature Slinky feel keeps them smooth and expressive enough for bends, vibrato, and lead playing.
Tonally, the nickel-plated steel construction delivers the bright, punchy character players expect from Ernie Ball strings, with excellent harmonic response and clarity across clean and driven tones alike. Whether you’re running through a cranked valve amp, stacking gain pedals, or playing articulate clean passages, Power Slinkys retain definition and energy beautifully.
At Musicmaker, these are a fantastic recommendation for guitarists looking to step up from lighter gauges and add a little more authority and punch to their tone without sacrificing playability.
