JS-480 Violet | Jet Guitars | Musicmaker Dublin
Now here's a guitar that knows how to make an entrance. The Jet Guitars JS-480 VIG arrives dressed in a gorgeous Violet finish with gleaming gold hardware, a beautifully roasted maple neck and enough tonal versatility to keep even the fussiest guitar nerd entertained. There's a definite boutique vibe going on here, but thankfully, the price tag hasn't got the memo. Jet has been making some seriously impressive instruments lately, and this one is an absolute looker.
Underneath that striking finish sits a roasted poplar body, providing a comfortable, resonant foundation for the JS-480's lively sound. The real treat, though, is the Canadian roasted maple neck. Heat-treated for improved stability and a lovely caramel-coloured appearance, it has a smooth Modern C profile that feels immediately familiar. Paired with a rosewood fingerboard, comfortable 9.5-inch radius and medium jumbo frets, it's a cracking setup for everything from chunky rhythm work to expressive blues bends and speedy lead playing.
The pickup department is where things get particularly interesting. Jet has fitted the JS-480 with a custom Alnico V HSS configuration, giving you the best of both single-coil sparkle and humbucker muscle. The neck pickup serves up those lovely rounded, glassy tones that sound glorious with a touch of reverb, while the middle pickup brings plenty of snap and definition for funky rhythm playing. Flick over to the bridge humbucker and there's a whole different animal waiting, with thicker mids, plenty of bite and enough grunt to get properly stuck into some rock riffs. A five-way selector keeps all those flavours within easy reach.
And Jet hasn't skimped on the hardware either. The gold tremolo bridge adds a little expressive wobble to your playing, while matching gold locking tuners make string changes considerably less of a wrestling match. They're a particularly welcome addition on a guitar with a tremolo, helping keep everything secure when you're getting enthusiastic with the whammy bar. The roasted maple neck, rosewood board and gold appointments against that rich Violet body make for a seriously handsome combination. Someone in Jet's design department deserves a biscuit.
At Musicmaker Dublin, we've developed a real appreciation for guitars that bring something interesting to the table without asking you to remortgage the house. The Jet JS-480 VIG is exactly that sort of instrument. It's got the familiar comfort of a classic double-cutaway electric, the flexibility of a well-chosen HSS pickup set and a collection of hardware upgrades that players will genuinely appreciate. And that Violet and gold finish? Go on, tell us you wouldn't give it a second look hanging on the wall.
