Hybrid Slinky Bass Strings 45-105
If you like a bass string that feels comfortable up top but properly substantial down low, the Ernie Ball 2833 Hybrid Slinky Bass Strings (.045–.105) are an absolute sweet spot. They combine the lighter feel of Ernie Ball's Super Slinky range on the higher strings with the beefier bottom end of a Regular Slinky set, giving you a wonderfully versatile setup for pretty much anything your bass gets dragged into.
The gauges are .045, .065, .085 and .105, with that chunky .105 E string providing plenty of solidity and punch when you're digging into riffs. Meanwhile, the lighter G and D strings keep things responsive for faster runs, slap playing and general fretboard acrobatics. It's a clever combination if a full 50–105 set feels slightly too heavy, but a 45–100 set leaves you wanting a bit more authority downstairs.
Construction is classic Ernie Ball Slinky: nickel-plated steel wrapped around hex-shaped steel core wire. That recipe produces a bright, balanced bass tone with plenty of clarity and definition, making these strings equally happy with fingers, pick or slap.
They're roundwound and uncoated, giving you that immediate, lively Slinky response straight out of the packet. The .105 low E also makes the set an interesting choice for players who occasionally venture into Drop D, where a little extra mass on the lowest string is always welcome.
At Musicmaker, Hybrid Slinkys are exactly the kind of strings we'd recommend to a bassist who says, “I like 45s, but I want a bigger bottom end.” Conveniently, Ernie Ball has already done the mixing and matching for you. Light where you want them, heavy where you need them.
