Lag Guitars Tramontane 118 Dreadnought - Black
There’s something undeniably cool about an all-black acoustic guitar, particularly when the looks are backed up by a proper solid timber soundboard and a big, confident dreadnought voice. The Lâg Guitars Tramontane 118 Dreadnought – Black (T118D-BLK) combines the warmth of solid Red Cedar with the power of a full-sized dreadnought, finished in a deep high-gloss Black that gives this traditional acoustic format a decidedly modern edge.
At the heart of the T118D-BLK is a solid Red Cedar top, and that's a major part of this guitar's personality. Cedar is naturally warm, responsive and expressive, opening up beautifully without requiring an aggressive picking hand. It makes gentle chord work and fingerstyle passages feel wonderfully alive, but pair it with the larger dreadnought body and there's plenty of muscle available when you really start strumming.
The back and sides are made from Khaya, complementing that cedar soundboard with a balanced, warm character and strong midrange presence. Lâg describes the dreadnought version of the T118 as particularly powerful and precise, making it a cracking choice for singer-songwriters, acoustic rhythm players and anyone who wants an instrument capable of filling a room without immediately reaching for an amplifier.
And that's worth emphasising: the T118D-BLK is a purely acoustic model. There's no cutaway and no onboard pickup or preamp system. Instead, Lâg has concentrated on giving you a traditional dreadnought experience—six strings, a big resonant body and the natural sound of the instrument doing all the work.
The Khaya neck is paired with a Brown BrankoWood fingerboard, with a comfortable 43mm nut width, 650mm scale length and 350mm fingerboard radius. Those dimensions give the guitar a familiar contemporary steel-string feel, while 20 medium silver-nickel frets and a double-action truss rod provide the adjustability and practicality needed for an instrument that's going to see plenty of playing.
Lâg's attention to detail gives the T118D-BLK considerably more personality than your average black dreadnought. Brown BrankoWood is also used for the bridge and headstock facing, creating a lovely contrast against the gloss Black body, while the distinctive oval rosette and rounded body binding add some unmistakable Tramontane style. Black die-cast machine heads with an 18:1 ratio complete the wonderfully cohesive look.
At Musicmaker, we're big fans of acoustics that get the fundamentals right before worrying about bells and whistles. The Lâg Tramontane 118 Dreadnought in Black is exactly that: a proper solid-top acoustic with a warm cedar voice, the authority of a dreadnought body and a finish that'll look equally at home beside the sofa, in the studio or under the lights at an acoustic session.
