Remo 10" Controlled Sound Coated Black Dot

Remo 10" Coated Controlled Sound Black Dot

The Remo 10" Controlled Sound Coated Black Dot Drum Head is a legendary choice for drummers who want focused attack, added durability, and controlled resonance without losing the lively feel of a single-ply head. Famous for its instantly recognisable black centre dot, this head has remained a staple on snares and toms for decades thanks to its punchy response and versatile tonal character.

Constructed from a single ply of coated film with Remo’s reinforced black dot applied to the centre, the Controlled Sound design offers the best of both worlds: open sensitivity around the outer edge and tighter, more focused attack in the centre striking area. On a 10" tom especially, this creates a crisp, articulate tone with excellent stick definition and a surprisingly full-bodied response for a smaller drum.

The coated finish adds warmth and smoothness while enhancing stick feel and brush articulation. Hit closer to the edge and the drum opens up with lively resonance and sensitivity; strike directly on the black dot and the sound tightens instantly with more attack, durability, and controlled overtones

This head works brilliantly across rock, funk, pop, punk, blues, fusion, and heavier modern styles, particularly for drummers who want a punchy, mix-friendly tom sound without excessive ringing. It’s also an excellent option for players who hit hard but still want dynamic response and musical feel.

At Musicmaker, the Controlled Sound Black Dot remains one of those timeless drum heads that continues to earn its place on kits everywhere because it simply delivers reliable tone, durability, and classic Remo punch.
