Remo 12" Controlled Sound Coated Black Dot
Remo 12" Controlled Sound Coated Black Dot
The Remo 12" Controlled Sound Coated Black Dot Drum Head is one of the most iconic snare and tom heads ever made, instantly recognisable thanks to its famous black centre dot and equally respected for its focused attack, durability, and unmistakable punch. It’s a favourite among drummers who want extra control and strength without sacrificing sensitivity or musical feel.
Built from a single ply of coated film with Remo’s reinforced black dot applied to the centre of the head, the Controlled Sound design offers a brilliant combination of warmth, articulation, and added durability exactly where sticks make the most impact. The result is a head that retains lively response around the outer edge while producing a tighter, more focused attack in the centre.
On a 12" drum, this head delivers crisp stick definition, controlled overtones, and a fat, punchy tone that works exceptionally well across rock, funk, pop, punk, blues, and heavier modern styles. The coated surface adds warmth and enhances brush response, making it equally comfortable in more dynamic or expressive playing situations.
One of the standout qualities of the Controlled Sound Black Dot is its versatility. Hit near the edge and you’ll get open, resonant tone with plenty of sensitivity. Play directly on the dot and the sound tightens up with extra attack, focus, and durability—perfect for drummers who need a head that can handle heavier playing without losing character.
At Musicmaker, this is one of those legendary drum heads that continues to stay relevant decade after decade because it simply sounds great and survives serious playing night after night.
