Stagg 21" SH Medium Ride Cymbal
A ride cymbal has a big job to do. It needs enough definition to keep the groove moving, enough wash to sound musical and enough presence to make itself heard without flattening everything else in the kit. The Stagg 21" SH Medium Ride hits a lovely balance between all three, offering a proper B20 bronze ride at a seriously approachable price.
Part of Stagg's SH Series, this 21" ride is made from B20 bronze – 80% copper and 20% tin – and receives Stagg's characteristic light hammering treatment alongside traditional lathing. The result is a warmer, more complex voice than you might expect from a cymbal at this end of the market.
The Medium weight gives it plenty of versatility. There's clear stick definition across the bow for keeping patterns articulate, accompanied by a musical underlying wash that fills things out without immediately swallowing the groove. Move towards the bell and you've got extra cut and definition when the band starts getting enthusiastic.
That slightly larger 21" diameter also gives the cymbal a bit more breadth and presence than the ubiquitous 20" ride, with plenty of sustain and a satisfying spread when you lean into it. It's versatile enough to move comfortably between rock, pop, indie, blues, jazz and general gigging duties, making it a cracking option if you want one ride to cover plenty of ground.
