Next Generation 324ce | Taylor | Musicmaker Dublin

There's something about a mahogany-topped Taylor that just gets under your skin. That warm, woody character, the beautifully controlled attack, the way every note seems to have a little extra personality. The Taylor Next Generation 324ce takes that already gorgeous formula and gives it a serious helping of clever acoustic engineering. With its solid tropical mahogany top, solid sapele back and sides, and stunning Shaded Edgeburst finish, this is one seriously classy electro-acoustic guitar.

Mahogany is the star of the show here, bringing a wonderfully earthy, midrange-rich voice that feels equally at home with delicate fingerstyle arrangements and big, confident chord work. There's a lovely natural compression to the attack, smoothing out the sharper edges of your playing without losing definition. The solid sapele body adds a touch of brightness and articulation, keeping everything beautifully balanced. It's a particularly satisfying combination for singer-songwriters, folk players and anyone who appreciates an acoustic with a bit of soul rather than excessive sparkle.

Under the bonnet, Taylor has been busy. The updated Scalloped V-Class bracing gives the soundboard greater freedom to move, bringing extra warmth and depth to the low end while preserving the sustain, projection and pitch accuracy that made V-Class such a talking point in the first place. You get a fuller, more open acoustic voice, with individual notes ringing clearly even when you're getting stuck into complicated chord voicings. Lovely stuff.

The Grand Auditorium body is another big part of the appeal. It's Taylor's wonderfully versatile middle ground, with enough body to give your strumming some proper authority but a comfortable waist and balanced response that fingerpickers will absolutely appreciate. The elegant Venetian cutaway makes exploring the upper frets a pleasure, while the smooth ebony fingerboard and familiar Taylor neck profile keep everything feeling effortlessly playable.

And here's something the guitar nerds will particularly enjoy: Taylor's Action Control Neck. This ingenious design allows precise string-height adjustments without the traditional business of removing the neck and swapping shims. It's a genuinely useful development, making it easier for a qualified technician to dial in your preferred action as your playing needs change. A lovely bit of practical engineering that shows Taylor hasn't forgotten the people who actually have to maintain these instruments.
Plugging in is equally impressive thanks to the new Taylor Claria pickup system. Designed to deliver a more natural, balanced amplified acoustic sound, Claria uses an under-saddle pickup with carefully voiced electronics to keep that familiar piezo harshness in check. Discreet soundhole-mounted Volume, Tone and Mid-Contour controls give you plenty of flexibility without cluttering the guitar's beautiful body. That Mid-Contour control is particularly handy when you need to find your place in a busy live mix without turning your lovely mahogany tone into something resembling a tin of angry bees.

And would you look at it? The rich Shaded Edgeburst finish is an absolute beauty, giving the tropical mahogany top a deep, smoky character that's complemented by the firestripe pickguard, subtle Weathervane inlays and understated black hardware. It's elegant without being flashy, with just enough vintage attitude to make you stop and stare. A deluxe Taylor hardshell case rounds things off nicely.

At Musicmaker Dublin, we have a particular fondness for guitars that reward a closer listen, and the Next Generation 324ce is packed with those little details that make an instrument genuinely special. Warm, articulate, beautifully responsive and loaded with thoughtful improvements, this is a proper musician's acoustic. The kind you pick up to test a few chords and find yourself still playing half an hour later.
