Stagg SGS-L Chromed Steel Slide Set - Large
Excerpt from the Liber Resonantia: Entry on the Stagg SGS-L, “The Steel That Sings”
“Not every song is meant for ears. Some are meant for the silence between worlds. To summon them, one must use the proper vessel.”
The Object
The Stagg SGS-L Chromed Steel Slide, herein called The Vessel, is forged in mundane fashion but altered through proximity to dissonance. It appears as a polished cylinder, large and gleaming, yet the surface reflects not the player but something other—a distortion of self, a suggestion of what waits. Its weight is unnatural. Those who bear it speak of a cold that creeps into the bones of the hand.
Playing Instructions (Rites of Resonance):
- Place The Vessel upon the finger of the fretting hand. Tradition dictates the third finger, though some accounts mention the ring finger as a “binding point.”
- Strike the lowest string. Allow it to drone. Do not dampen. Let it grow until the air thickens.
- With slow, deliberate motion, draw The Vessel from the twelfth fret downward. The glissando must not be hurried. Listen: the overtone will arrive. A voice beneath your own.
- Repeat thrice. After the third, do not continue—lest the harmony fully answer.
Warnings (Seals of Containment):
- Never perform the Rite under a new moon. Accounts from Cornwall, Mississippi, and Kraków confirm this timing “opens the gate too wide.”
- Should the strings vibrate without touch, cease immediately. Do not strike another note until dawn.
- Do not play alone. Witnesses tether the sound to this world.
The Effects
Those who complete the Rite report:
- Shadows lengthening in unnatural directions.
- Notes sustaining after dampening, as though refusing silence.
- Hearing their name, not in their ears, but within the string itself.
The Price
The player begins to lose distinction between self and resonance. Chords feel compulsory, descending patterns recur in dreams, and silence becomes intolerable. Some never remove The Vessel again, wearing it until the finger blackens.
Invocation Verse (to be whispered before playing):
Steel of silence, voice of night,
Through the strings my hand ignite.
Chain of tone, unlock the door,
Let the song be mine no more.
Good luck...........
