Sometimes the simplest percussion instruments are the ones that absolutely refuse to disappear in a mix. The Stagg SCL-S Claves are a classic example: two small pieces of hardwood, one wonderfully sharp click, and absolutely nowhere for questionable timing to hide.

The SCL-S is a pair of small, round wooden claves, each measuring approximately 20cm long and 22.5mm in diameter. Stagg specifies ailanthus wood, giving them a solid yet manageable construction that's comfortable to hold and perfectly suited to the traditional clave playing technique.

Strike one against the other and you get that familiar bright, dry and articulate wooden attack that's been a rhythmic cornerstone of Latin and Afro-Cuban music for generations. They're brilliant for reinforcing a clave pattern, adding crisp accents to an acoustic arrangement or simply introducing players to one of percussion's most fundamental rhythmic sounds.
