Evans EQ3 Clear Bass Drum Head - 22"

Evans EQ3 Clear Bass Drum Head - 22"

The Evans EQ3 Clear Bass Drum Head – 22" is a serious workhorse for drummers chasing that punchy, modern kick drum sound heard on countless live stages and recordings. Known for its balance of attack, low-end depth, and controlled sustain, the EQ3 Clear has become a go-to choice for players who want a powerful bass drum tone without needing loads of extra dampening or complicated setup tricks.

Built with a dual-ply construction, this head delivers excellent durability alongside a focused, punchy response that handles everything from hard rock and metal to pop, funk, indie, and live session work. The clear finish gives the drum a slightly brighter attack and more pronounced articulation compared to coated alternatives, helping the beater cut through clearly while still retaining plenty of body and warmth underneath.

A major part of the EQ3’s popularity comes from Evans’ integrated internal overtone control ring. It subtly manages excessive resonance without choking the drum’s natural tone, creating a deep, controlled thump that feels tight, musical, and mix-ready straight away. You get strong low-end punch with just enough sustain to keep the drum sounding lively and responsive.

The 22" size is ideal for standard full-size bass drums and works brilliantly across a wide tuning range. Tuned low, it delivers huge modern rock punch and weight. At medium tensions, it offers a clean, balanced response perfect for versatile gigging setups and recording applications.

At Musicmaker, the EQ3 Clear is one of those dependable drumheads we regularly recommend because it simply works—easy to tune, durable under heavy playing, and consistently great sounding across multiple genres and performance settings.
